What Equipment is Used in Distillation?

The distillation is a common operation seen in chemistry, industry and other fields, which is usually regarded as an essential separation process of hemp. What is Short Path Distillation?

The short path distillation is a technique that removes solvents form mixtures through evaporation, which is mainly used for liquid-liquid separation. The principle is that the pressure difference between the boiling film and condensing surface is the driving force of the steam flow, and the minimum pressure will cause the flowing of steam. Under the 1mbar, the operation requires that there is the shortest distance between the boiling surface and condensing surface. The evaporator manufactured based on the principle is called the short-path distillation. The short-path distillation (molecular distillation) is equipped with a inside condenser which is opposite to the heating surface, and make the operation pressure reduce to under 0.001mbar. Its relative low boiling temperature is very suitable for the material with heat sensitive and high boiling point.

What is Molecular Distillation?

The molecular distillation is a kind of distillation technology carried out under a high vacuum. In this case, the average free path of steam molecules is greater than the distance between the evaporation surface and the condensation surface. Hence, the liquid mixtures can be separated by utilizing the difference of the evaporation rate of each component in the liquid.

The molecular distillation provides the best separation method for high boiling point, heat sensitive and easily oxidized materials. Because the molecular distillation can be operated under a temperature much lower than boiling points of materials and the retention time of materials is short. It can effectively remove substances in the liquid, such as organic solvent, odor, etc. It is a very effective method for the liquid desolvation after solvent extraction.
